Martinsburg isn’t exactly a food capital, but that’s kind of the point. You will find a place like Brix 27, where crab cakes get treated with the respect they deserve, and then, a few blocks away, Sissy’s serving fried mac and cheese that tastes like a hug.

The spread runs from a literal family dining room for Thai food to a whiskey bar where the steak is worth the splurge. One thing we learned: always order the deviled eggs.

Bring an appetite, and maybe a map of the old town, because you’ll want to hit several of these in one afternoon. Go explore.

Excellent tapas-style small plates
Great charcuterie and deviled eggs
Incredible crab cakes and short rib
Generous full-size wine pours
Attentive, friendly staff service

Brix 27 does tapas the right way, which is to say you order everything and share like civilized people. The deviled eggs are the kind of thing you'll think about later, and the charcuterie board is a solid piece of work. But the crab cakes? Those are the real deal, and the short rib is so tender it practically apologizes for being so good. The wine pours are generous, full-size pours, not those stingy little tasting sips. The staff is attentive without hovering. It's a place that makes you feel like you're in on a secret, except the secret's out.

Sides steal the show
Homemade pickles are addictive
Best BBQ in area
Cocktails out of this world
Friendly, consistent service

Firebox55 is where I learned that sides can outshine the main event, and I respect that. The homemade pickles are dangerously addictive; I ate them like they were chips. The BBQ itself is the best in the area, no contest. The ribs have that smoky pull, and the brisket doesn't quit. But those sides, the mac and cheese, the beans, they're the show. Cocktails are out of this world, too, so don't skip them. Service is friendly and consistent, which is rarer than you'd think. Just go hungry and leave happy.

Thai Martinsburg Restaurant is a home, and I mean that literally. You're eating in someone's house, and that makes the whole thing feel like a family dinner. The Pad Thai is worth the drive from wherever you are; it's sweet, tangy, and has that perfect chew. The curry and sticky rice are a match made in heaven. The servers are patient teachers, walking you through the menu if you're new. The hospitality is warm and attentive, like they're genuinely happy you're there. It's authentic, unpretentious, and the kind of place you'll want to keep secret.

Steak and shrimp were excellent
Top notch lobster bisque
Friendly, prompt, attentive service
Beautiful dish presentation
Worth the higher price

Stoney's Whiskey Wine & Raw Bar is the kind of place where you check the bill twice, then nod and say 'worth it.' The steak and shrimp were excellent, cooked exactly how I asked, which never happens. The lobster bisque was top notch, creamy and rich without being heavy. The presentation was beautiful, like they actually care about how it looks on the plate. Service was friendly, prompt, attentive, all the things you want. It's pricier, but you get what you pay for. This is a special occasion spot, and it delivers.

Stunning, tasty martinis
New and unique Martinsburg addition

The Young American is the new kid on the block, and it's a cute one. The atmosphere is great, all cozy and inviting, with just enough hustle to feel alive. The deviled eggs and stuffed pickles are the standouts, and they're the kind of bar snacks that make you forget you came for drinks. The martinis are stunning, and they taste even better than they look. It's a new and unique addition to Martinsburg, and I'm here for it. If you're tired of the same old spots, give this place a shot. You'll be glad you did.

Lunch buffet, hot and tasty
Well-kept secret, worth the stop

Spice Connexion is a well-kept secret, and I'm almost mad I'm telling you about it. The lunch buffet is hot and tasty, but the real winner is the family-style portions; they're generous and fresh. The owner personally checks on your table, which is a nice touch you don't see everywhere. The food is spiced well, not just for heat but for flavor. It's the kind of place you stumble into and then can't stop thinking about. Worth the stop, seriously. Just come hungry because they don't do small.

Warm, gracious hospitality

The Historical McFarland House is a venue that does the historic part right. It's beautiful and clean, with that charming, nostalgic atmosphere that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. I was there for a bridal shower, and it was perfect. The shrimp and bacon were amazing; I could've eaten just that and been satisfied. The hospitality was warm and gracious, the kind of Southern charm that feels authentic. If you're looking for a place with character and great food, this is it. Just don't expect anything modern; that's not the point.

Intimate yet casual dining atmosphere
Solid drinks and garlic bread
Best potatoes on the menu

Saretto is the kind of place that makes you want to order everything on the menu. The pasta dishes are delicious, with fresh ingredients that you can actually taste. The garlic bread is solid, and the drinks are respectable, but the potatoes are the best thing on the menu. I know that sounds odd for an Italian place, but trust me. The service is attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere is intimate yet casual, so you can dress up or down. It's a great little spot that doesn't try too hard, and it works.

Rolls are the real stars
Cedar plank chicken wins
Service handled by Jamie
Ribs came out phenomenal
Skip the sad wilted salad

Logan's Roadhouse is a chain, but Jamie makes it feel like a family operation. The rolls are the real stars; I could eat a basket and call it a meal. The cedar plank chicken is a winner, smoky and juicy. The ribs came out phenomenal, fall-off-the-bone tender. But the salad was sad and wilted, like it had given up. Skip that and get extra rolls. Jamie handled our table with care, and that made the difference. It's not fine dining, but it's consistent and the service is why you'll come back.

Wedding venue beyond expectations
Staff attention is unmatched
Igloo book club perfection
Cozy scenery, delicious food
Already planning the return

The Purple Iris at Hartwood Mansion is a wedding venue that exceeded every expectation I had. The staff attention is unmatched; they anticipated things before I even asked. We did an igloo book club thing, which sounds gimmicky but was actually perfect. Cozy scenery, delicious food, and the whole place felt magical. I'm already planning my return, which is saying something because I'm not usually one to repeat. If you're looking for a spot that feels special, this is it. The food is good, but the whole package is what wins.

The Venue

Food guests still discuss
Staff goes above beyond
Bridal suite truly stunning
One-stop shop convenience
Day ran perfectly smooth

The Venue is a one-stop shop, and honestly, that's a relief. We had an event there, and the day ran perfectly smooth, which is rare. The staff goes above and beyond; they handled everything like they'd been doing it for decades. The bridal suite is stunning, worth the visit alone. But the food is what guests still talk about weeks later. It's not just wedding food; it's actual food. If you're planning something big, this is the place to go. You won't have to worry about a thing, and that's priceless.

Great Bacon Cheese Burger

Local favorite worth trying
Fried Mac and cheese wins

Sissy's Family Restaurant is a local favorite, and I get it. The prices are easy on the wallet, but the quality doesn't suffer. The Bacon Cheese Burger is great, cooked right, with crispy bacon. The fried mac and cheese is a winner; it's comfort food on a plate. The staff cares, genuinely cares, like they know your name and your usual order. It's not fancy, but it doesn't need to be. You come for the food and the feeling of being looked after. That's hard to beat these days.
