I walked into Ice Cream Jubilee on a Tuesday afternoon with low expectations and left questioning every life choice that had kept me away for so long. But Reston isn’t just one scoop; it’s a town where you can grab a passionfruit coconut swirl at a strip mall, then wander over to Reston Town Center and watch the fountain while licking a gelato that tastes like a Buenos Aires vacation.

From pampered-cow creamery scoops to Italian ice with a paan twist, this list covers the full, weird, wonderful spread. Keep the Tysons crowd guessing.

Your only real problem is parking. Here’s where to eat.

Mint chocolate brownie perfection

Real fruit flavors shine
Not overly sweet treats
Cotton candy and matcha wow

I walked into Ice Cream Jubilee on a Tuesday afternoon with low expectations and left questioning every life choice that had kept me away for so long. The mint chocolate brownie isn't just perfection; it's the kind of perfection that makes you want to call your mom and apologize for ever eating mint chip anywhere else. The staff were so patient while I waffled between flavors that I almost felt guilty, but then I tasted the cotton candy and matcha and realized guilt has no place here. Nothing is overly sweet, which means the real fruit flavors actually get to speak for themselves. That's rare. Go early, because word travels fast.

Highlights
Great for shopping-area stops
Tasty mango and affogato
Affordable coffee and chocolate
Solid gelato, not worth detour

Pitango sits right in the thick of Reston Town Center, which means you can grab a cone and watch the chaos of shoppers swirl around you like a very expensive, very caffeinated tornado. The mango gelato was genuinely tasty, bright and honest, and the affogato hit that perfect bitter-sweet spot that made me forget I was technically loitering. Coffee and chocolate are reasonably priced, which feels like a small miracle in this neighborhood. Is it worth a special detour? Probably not. But if you're already there, wrestling with parking and your own indecision, you could do much worse than a solid scoop and a seat on the curb.

Huge portions, friendly staff
Unique New Zealand-style soft serve
Massive, delicious baked cookies
Great space for gatherings
Passionfruit coconut combo shines

SoftSpot is the kind of place that makes you suspicious, because nothing this good should exist in a strip mall. The New Zealand-style soft serve is unlike anything else in Reston, dense and somehow both airy and creamy, and the passionfruit coconut combo tasted like a vacation that didn't require a passport. The portions are huge, so bring a friend or a very forgiving stomach. The cookies are massive, baked with the kind of confidence that suggests they've never failed at anything. The space itself is perfect for gatherings, which I discovered when I accidentally joined a birthday party for someone I'd never met. Friendly staff, zero judgment. I stayed for an hour.

Homemade food, family-friendly vibe
Coffee that beats the rest
Warm, welcoming local staff
Fresh flavors, quality you taste
Worth reserving your seat early

Kook Dogg Cafe is a family-friendly spot where the food is homemade and the coffee could probably wake up a hibernating bear. I came for the ice cream and stayed for the vibe, which is warm and welcoming in a way that makes you wonder if you've accidentally wandered into someone's living room. The staff remembered my name by the second visit, which is either impressive or concerning given how often I've been going. The flavors are fresh, and you can taste the quality in every single bite. The locals clearly know what's up, so reserve your seat early or prepare to hover awkwardly near the counter like I did.

Highlights
Distinctive flavors worth the trip
Pampered cows, exceptionally creamy scoops
Right-priced cones, oversized satisfaction
Benches and nearby park seating
Quirkiest shop, new favorite spot

Lil City Creamery is the quirkiest shop I've encountered in Reston, and I mean that as the highest possible compliment. The cows are apparently pampered, which explains why the scoops are so exceptionally creamy they practically melt on their own terms. Every flavor felt distinctive, like the chef was actively trying to surprise me rather than just reheat the same old vanilla. The cones are priced right and oversized, which is my favorite kind of math. There are benches nearby and a park, so you can sit and contemplate why you've been wasting your time at chain places all these years. This is my new favorite spot, and I'm not sorry about it.

Gorgeous gift-box macarons
Owner communicates wonderfully
Holiday themes impress recipients
Lemon and chocolate strawberry shine
Worth trying on fresh days

CHIBOO Bakery might be a bakery first, but their ice cream adjacent macarons deserve a mention in any Reston ice cream roundup. The gift-box presentation is so gorgeous I almost didn't want to eat them, but then I did and regretted nothing. The owner communicated with me like I was a VIP, which I appreciate, especially since I showed up looking like I'd just fought a lawnmower. The lemon and chocolate strawberry flavors are the standouts, bright and balanced, but they're best on fresh days, so don't stockpile them like a squirrel. The holiday themes are genuinely impressive; I gave a box to my skeptical aunt and she called me three times to rave. That's power.

Best Italian ice around
Owner teaches every flavor
Cute mom-and-pop cafe
Original plus Indian options
Paan, Tutti-Fruti, Sitafal

Sugar Mama's is a cute mom-and-pop cafe that serves the best Italian ice I've had outside of a cramped shop in South Philly. The owner doesn't just hand you a scoop; he teaches you every flavor, complete with origin stories and probably his life story if you let him. I didn't mind. The original options are solid, but the Indian twists are where things get interesting. Paan, Tutti-Fruti, and Sitafal are all there, each one tasting like a celebration of something I can't quite name. It's a small place, but it's packed with personality. Bring cash, bring patience, and bring an appetite for conversation.

Best hangout spot in Reston
Ice rink transforms in winter
Free parking after five
Fountains and festive decorations
Tons of restaurants and shops

Reston Town Center isn't a single ice cream shop, but it's the backdrop for so many of my frozen treats that it deserves its own shoutout. The fountains and festive decorations make it the best hangout spot in Reston, especially in winter when the ice rink transforms everything into a postcard that's actually real. Free parking after five is the kind of gift that keeps on giving, because you can spend hours wandering between the tons of restaurants and shops, sampling dessert from one place and then, you know, dessert from another. The energy is contagious, and you'll find me here whenever the mood strikes, which is often.

Highlights
Creative, flavorful, reasonably priced lunch
Rose’s attentive, friendly service
Pisco sours worth discovering
Second visit even better
Warm welcome from Joseph

Pisco y Nazca is a ceviche gastrobar, but their dessert game is strong enough to land them on my ice cream list. The pisco sours are worth discovering on their own, and on my second visit, they were even better than the first, which feels like a magic trick. Rose's service was attentive and friendly, and Joseph gave me a warm welcome that made me feel like a regular even though I'd only been once before. The lunch menu is creative, flavorful, and reasonably priced, which is rare in this area. I came for the ceviche, stayed for the vibes, and left planning my third visit. Don't skip dessert.

Perfect 10 out of 10
Crisp veggies, amazing sauces
Lamb and beef merguez
Killer lemon bars, raspberry sauce
Friendly staff, quick service

Cafe Anne is a perfect 10 out of 10, and I don't say that lightly. The lamb and beef merguez was incredibly flavorful, but let's be honest, I was there for the lemon bars, which come with a raspberry sauce that made me want to lick the plate. The veggies are crisp, the sauces are amazing, and the staff are so friendly and quick that I almost felt guilty for taking so long to decide. It's a small spot, but it's mighty. I've already planned my next trip, and I'm bringing a friend who thinks she's had good lemon bars. She hasn't. Not like these.

Dog friendly patio
Authentic Argentine flavors
Made fresh from scratch
Perfect gelato texture
Seasonal, so visit soon

Casa Rosada Artisan Gelato is the real deal, and the dog friendly patio sealed the deal for me. The Argentine flavors are authentic in a way that makes you feel like you've been transported to Buenos Aires, but without the 10-hour flight. Everything is made fresh from scratch, and you can tell because the texture is so perfect it practically hums. It's seasonal, so you have to visit soon or you'll miss out on whatever magical flavor they're currently conjuring. My dog approved of the outdoor seating, and I approved of the gelato. That's a win-win in my book.

Knowledgeable staff, special celebrations
Unique unicorn tea for kids

Elden Street Tea Shop is an intimate, charming spot that feels like a tea party your grandmother always promised but never delivered. The scones are fresh and come with cultured butter that could make a shoe taste good. The staff are knowledgeable, especially when it comes to special celebrations, and they've got a unicorn tea for kids that made my inner child squeal. They also host drag bingo nights, which is not something I expected in Reston, but now I can't imagine life without it. It's a small space, so reservations matter. Go for the tea, stay for the scones, and definitely stay for the bingo.
